Alianza is happy to share that we have embarked on a new initiative, the Know Your Rights and Resources (KYRR) project under a cooperative agreement with USDA, as part of USDA’s Farm Labor Stabilization and Protection (FLSP) pilot program. The new USDA pilot addresses farm labor challenges, including improving working conditions for farmworkers. The KYRR component of the pilot will help ensure that all farmworkers within the FLSP program have access to accurate information and credible resource connections within their worksite communities.
KYRR aims to ensure that all workers, including those under the H2A visa program, fully understand their rights. It also seeks to build a legitimate conduit for farmworkers to receive resources and strengthen trust between worker-serving organizations and employers, thereby supporting the long-term resiliency of the US farm labor force.
Alianza will collaborate with employers who have been awarded FLSP grants from USDA to schedule on-farm 2-hour trainings with workers. These trainings will be conducted in partnership with Alianza member organizations: Campesinos Sin Fronteras, Centro de Los Derechos del Migrante, Rural Coalition, Workers Center of Central New York, Líderes Campesinas, Mujeres Luchadoras Progresistas, and Mujeres Divinas. Together, we will conduct trainings in more than 40 states and territories for approximately 11,200 workers.
Collaboratively with USDA and other federal agencies, we are working to develop a training curriculum that is both informative and culturally relevant for our community. We will provide more updates as we begin the trainings this Summer.
