SEEDING ALIANZA

In 1991, after several years of organizing - community, electoral, and educational campaigns - campesina organizations in the Coachella Valley committed to developing a national network of farmworker women at their third campesina local conference. First, they founded Líderes Campesinas, the first farmworker women organization in the country. Líderes organized for the implementation of domestic violence prevention programs, workplace protections and more, fundamentally changing the terrain of organizing and working conditions for farmworker women in California.

Twenty years later, in 2011, Alianza, along with pioneer organizations Lideres Campesinas, Campesinos Sin Fronteras, the Florida Farmworker Association, Rural Coalition and Mujeres Campesinas Unidas de Florida.

GROWING ALIANZA

Alianza was officially founded in 2011 by member organizations and campesinas as leaders, agents of change, advocates, and key drivers of our advocacy, organizing, and training

Since 2012 V-Day has supported Alianza to organize actions and bring together campesinas from around the country to make decisions and build our organization.

In 2018 & 2019 Alianza first received funding to establish organizational infrastructure and hire staff.

Currently, alianza is comprised of 15 member organizations and groups based across 10 states and Washington DC.
