**100+ Farmworker Women Travel to Washington D.C. for Fifth National Convivencia, Seek Real Change**

Alianza Nacional de Campesinas will bring together its membership of 15 organizations from across 20 states, Puerto Rico, and the District of Columbia for its fifth National Convivencia in Washington D.C. from April 15-18. The purpose of the gathering is to generate and share solutions concerning the exploitative, unjust working and living conditions that campesinas are forced to endure. Members will also have the opportunity to meet with representatives and share their grievances.

Our Convivencia, which translates as ‘coexistence’ in English, is not merely a conference. Instead, in coming together, we communicate, reach agreements on complicated matters, and make recommendations for future work. Working together over the course of a few days within our cultural context has always been a staple of Alianza’s work, allowing our membership to confidently share their experiences with one another. Relationship building ensures that our work advances in the direction that farmworker women need and deserve.

On Monday, April 17th - which is also International Day of Peasant Struggle - Alianza members will meet with congressional representatives and senators to discuss issues and legislation related to Alianza’s four priority areas:

Ending Violence Against Women and Girls (including domestic violence, sexual harassment and assault in the workplace, gender discrimination, & sexual abuse of minors)
Reducing Pesticide Use (including improving regulations of Worker Protection Standards [WPS] / Pilot Record Improvement Act [PRIA] / Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act [FIFRA] & sustainable agriculture)
Enacting a Just Immigration Reform (including a pathway to citizenship for farmworkers, their family members, and everyone else in the US who is undocumented, protections for migrant workers, and legal protections for survivors of gender-based violence and other forms of abuses)
Strengthening Labor and Workers’ Rights (improving health and safety, labor and employment standards, and equal pay and treatment)

Members will also participate in 20 workshops centered around these four priority areas. Additional workshops will feature the place of farmworkers within the 2023 Farm Bill, and how to address health, nutrition and poverty challenges that exist within the farmworker community. Due to the success of the virtual 2021 convivencia, Alianza will also have a virtual aspect this year so that all members can participate regardless of travel limitations.

We are excited to hear from each other and push forward the solutions that our community desperately needs.” says Mily Trevino-Sauceda, Executive Director of Alianza Nacional de Campesinas “The campesinas that are coming to the convening are activists and represent their own communities. This is why our convening is so important. It is the biggest gathering of farmworker women in the nation and one of the only opportunities that they have to share with other activists from around the country.”

**Más de 100 Campesinas Viajan a Washington D.C. Para la Quarta Convivencia Nacional, Buscan un Cambio Real**

Alianza Nacional de Campesinas reunirá a su membresía de 15 organizaciones a través de 20 estados, Puerto Rico y el Distrito de Columbia para su quinta Convivencia Nacional en Washington D.C. del 15 al 18 de abril. El propósito de la reunión es generar y compartir soluciones sobre las condiciones de trabajo y de vida explotadoras e injustas que las campesinas se ven obligadas a soportar. Lxs miembrxs también tendrán la oportunidad de reunirse con representantes y compartir sus experiencias.

Nuestra Convivencia no es simplemente una conferencia. En cambio, al unirnos, comunicamos, llegamos a acuerdos sobre asuntos complicados y hacemos recomendaciones para el trabajo futuro. Trabajar juntas en el transcurso de unos días dentro de nuestro contexto cultural siempre ha sido un elemento básico del trabajo de Alianza, lo que permite a nuestras miembras compartir con confianza sus experiencias entre sí. La construcción de relaciones asegura que nuestro trabajo avance en la dirección que las campesinas necesitan y merecen.

El lunes 17 de abril, que también es el Día Internacional de la Lucha Campesina, las miembras de Alianza se reunirán con representantes del Congreso y senadores para discutir temas y legislación relacionados con las cuatro áreas prioritarias de Alianza:

Poner fin a la violencia contra las mujeres y las niñas (incluida la violencia doméstica, el acoso y las agresiones sexuales en el lugar de trabajo, la discriminación de género y el abuso sexual de menores)
Reducción del uso de pesticidas (incluida la mejora de las regulaciones de los Estándares de protección del trabajador [WPS]/Ley de mejora de registros piloto [PRIA]/Ley federal de insecticidas, fungicidas y rodenticidas [FIFRA] y agricultura sostenible)
Promulgar una reforma migratoria justa (que incluya un camino hacia la ciudadanía para lxs campesinxs, sus familiares y todxs lxs demás indocumentadxs en los EE. UU., protecciones para lxs trabajadorxs migrantes y protecciones legales para sobrevivientes de violencia de género y otras formas de abusos)
Fortalecimiento de los derechos laborales y de lxs trabajadores (mejora de la salud y la seguridad, las normas laborales y de empleo, y la igualdad de pago y trato)

Miembras también participarán en 20 talleres centrados en estas cuatro áreas de prioridad. Talleres adicionales presentarán el lugar de lxs campesinxs dentro de la Ley Agrícola de 2023 y cómo abordar los desafíos de salud, nutrición y pobreza que existen dentro de la comunidad campesina. Debido al éxito de la convivencia virtual 2021, Alianza también tendrá un aspecto virtual este año para que todxs lxs miembrxs puedan participar.

Por eso es tan importante nuestra convivencia. Es la reunión más grande de campesinas en la nación y una de las únicas oportunidades que tienen para compartir con otras activistas de todo el país”.
